
About the Course
Bloom Wellbeing is the first Massage therapy training school in the North East offering Sports Massage courses. Our level 3 course is awarded by industry leaders Active IQ.
Our learners will leave with an in-depth knowledge and the skills to provide sports massage therapy to a range of clients. We firmly believe massage therapists should be taught by massage therapists, so come and learn with the best!
The Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy gives learners the necessary skills to work as a qualified sports massage therapist. The qualification will allow the learner to gain employment within many organisations in different sectors or in a self-employed environment.Â
Running over 6 weekends and a final day for assessment, with the maximum amount of hands-on training and support with the academic work including a one to one session with Grace and opportunities to work on real clients. We have curated the course for getting you ready to work in the industry as soon as you qualify.
The qualification is recognised by the Complementary and Natural Care Council (CNHC) and the General Council, for Massage Therapies (GCMT), the Sports Massage Association (SMA) and the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT).
During the qualification learners will cover the following:
Anatomy and physiology required to be able to apply sports massage.
How to carry out a range of assessments and construct a sports massage treatment plan
How to distinguish between acute injury and soft tissue dysfunction and understand the causes and pathology of soft tissue damage.
How to recognise when to defer treatment or when to refer to a more qualified massage or healthcare professional.
How to select appropriate massage techniques for a range of clients.
How to apply sports massage techniques safely and effectively, understanding the potential effects.
Who is the Level 3 Sports Massage Diploma for?
Learners must be 16+ years old. Whilst there are no other specific entry requirements an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) is involved and learners should have basic skills in written and spoken English.
Performing sports massage is a physical activity and learners will need to be
fit enough to carry this out. Our training school is on the first floor of our building, please contact the centre with any queries about accessibility.

Individuals considering a career in active leisure or already working in the active leisure sector wishing to enhance their career progression opportunities.

Our course leader Grace Harrop has over a decade of experience working as a massage therapist across the world and will be sharing tips for employment and further education as part of the course

Grace Harrop

Grace is a remedial massage therapist and owner of Bloom Wellbeing. She has 15 years experience of bodywork and in this time has worked around the world from Newcastle to Costa Rica.
Her focus in practice is working with pain management and encouraging body confidence and positivity. She is a qualified adult education provider and loves creating a safe and nurturing space for people to learn and grow.
